Vehicle Theft

On 12/21/2011, at approximately 0137 hours, Officer Dale Goforth (Manteca Police Officer) was on routine patrol traveling westbound in the 400 block of Parkwood Avenue in Manteca, Ca. He observed a green Honda stopped in the middle of the street, Officer Goforth then observed a male subject, later identified as Gerardo Padilla, standing by the driver side of another parked Honda attempting to make entry.

Padilla looked up, saw Officer Goforth, and walked back to the green Honda. Padilla got into the front passenger seat. The green Honda then drove toward Maywood Avenue, at which point, Officer Goforth conducted a traffic stop. Officer Goforth exited his patrol vehicle. As he began to approach the green Honda, the vehicle sped away, and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle turned down Allenwood Court. The suspects jumped from the vehicle and began to run. The green Honda struck the north side of a house and stopped while the two suspects ran eastbound, jumping fences and entering several backyards.

Manteca Police patrol units responded and set a perimeter, which eventually led to the arrest of Padilla. The green Honda was found to be an unreported stolen vehicle out of Modesto. Another stolen Honda was also located a short distance from where Officer Goforth first observed Padilla attempting to gain entry into a vehicle.

Padilla was arrested for vehicle theft, attempted vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of stolen property, obstructing a Police Officer, and possession of burglary tools.

Geraldo Padilla, who is 20 years old, resides in Modesto. Officers are still following up on leads and are still attempting to identify the second subject. Damage to the residence was fairly minor, mostly cosmetic.

South County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the second suspect. Callers may call at 823-4636 and remain anonymous.
